Assisted living is a great option for someone who wants to maintain their independence but needs assistance with managing activities of daily living and or daily medication management.
Residents have individual apartments from studio to 2 bedrooms that they furnish and decorate to their tastes.
Assistance can be provided for activities of daily living (ADLs) in order to promote dignity and independence which can include the following:
- Bathing, dressing, toileting/incontinence and medication management
- Escorts and transfer service from 1-2 person or more
- Access to health and medical services such as primary care doctor practice associated with community, podiatrist, geriatric psychiatrist, mobile dentist, physical and occupational therapy, social worker and more
The communities Registered Nurse (RN) will perform a personalized assessment of each incoming resident, which is used to create a customized, individual care plan that is reviewed in detail with the resident and/or family prior to move-in.
Typical Amenities at Assisted Living Communities
- Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA’s)- on site 24 hours a day
- RN/LPN – 7 days a week on site/on call in the evening for example, more and more communities are providing 24/7 on site RN/LPN coverage
- Three meals a day- restaurant-like environment
- Housekeeping and personal laundry
- Emergency call systems in each apartment typically located in the bathroom
- Pendant for each resident
- Daily social and recreational activities
- Transportation for doctors’ appointments, religious services, shopping, errands, and scheduled outings
- On-site hair salon, library, general activities room, computer access, and private dining room for family celebrations
