If you are a health care professional, you have likely been bombarded with questions about the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as “Obamacare.” Seniors have been victims of scams artists preying on their lack of understanding about it.
With so many sites out there, what resources can you safely direct patients and clients to for help?
Sources of ACA Information
Here are four comprehensive sites (you can click the links and be directed to that website) that can help connect people with the information they need on Obamacare:
1.) HealthCare.gov
This is the infamous site we all heard so much about on the news last fall. It is up and running and full of the information people need to enroll in a plan. It also has resources for small businesses, the self-employed, families and individuals. The “Topics” directory contains everything from Consumer Rights and Protections to Preventative Care Coverage.
2.)Key Features of the Affordable Care Act
This overview page is a part of the Department of Health and Human Services site. It breaks down key components of the act to make it easier to understand. For example, you can find information on the benefits of ACA for women, how younger adults are impacted, and the tax credits available for small businesses.
3.)Affordable Care Act Tax Provisions
Yes, even the IRS has resources on ACA. Primarily because there is so much confusion on how penalties will be assessed for those who do not sign up for insurance, who can deduct their health care premiums, and what responsibilities employers have. You will find those answers on this site.
4.)Affordable Care Act Implementation Frequently Asked Questions
The Department of Labor has pulled together an Obamacare FAQ section geared toward employers and ACA implementation. At first glance the amount of information on this page looks overwhelming, but questions and answers are broken down by topic and are easy to navigate. Have questions about a group plan for two employees? They have the answers. Are you an expatriate not sure what is required of you? This site can help.
We hope this list will help provide you with some quality information and resources to share with patients, clients and their families.
