National Breast Cancer Awareness: Are you Informed?

October 29, 2019 Posted by Ann Jamison Senior Care No Comments

So you are over 50, and all the health issues come pouring in your email and news. Not to mention the information from your family and friends. In October, we recognize that one issue we need to take note of is breast cancer. Breast cancer is most prevalent among women over 50 years of age. So when should you be concerned about your breast health, and when is it just a part of natural aging? What can you do to decrease your chances of breast cancer?

One thing everyone has in common is that we will grow old. Aging is natural and when it comes to breast health, we need to know what is just a natural change and what is a concern. You should know the difference for you health and peace of mind.

Common Changes in Breast as You Age

  1. Wider Space between breast
  2. Stretch Marks
  3. Elongated, flattened, or stretched in appearance
  4. Downward pointing nipples
  5. Lumpiness due to fibrocystic breasts or cancerous issues that need checked

As you try to stay on top of your breast health, you need to make sure you are on top of your overall health too. The simple basics of healthful living seem to always come back to you when you think in the mindset of “what do I do to stay healthy”. It is not rocket science to stay healthy, so I think you can do it. Not only will you help your overall health, but you will be armed with good habits to help prevent disease in your body.

4 things to help avoid breast cancer

  1. Stay or get physically active
  2. Keep your diet and weight in check
  3. Slow down on the alcohol intake
  4. Be aware and on top of health history

The bottom line is you need to be health conscience. If you are over 50, you especially need to be aware of breast cancer, as well as other cancers that can affect your body.
